FAQs

Q. How can ID AlarmŽ help with fraud investigations?
A. A search on the ID misused in the fraud will provide evidence that your organization or employee was not likely a party to the fraud, since an attempt was made to contact the ID owner at the point of ID use. Non-members can also retrieve the notification to satisfy themselves that an attempt to contact them was made. Records will also indicate whether the member received the notification and failed to take appropriate action.

Q. How can ID AlarmŽ help with breach notification requirements?
A. ID AlarmŽ is faster, cheaper and more reliable than notifying customers by mail. Notifications are delivered within seconds of sending. You only pay cents per matched ID. You also may not have an up to date address for a customer. Addresses change, but ID numbers generally do not.

Q. How long does it take to set up an account for my organization?
A. Processing times will vary with the time required to verify your organization. In most cases your application will be processed with 24 hours.

Q. Do you have an API interface for large organizations?
A. Yes. An XML based API is available for large organizations to integrate into their current application processing and customer management systems. Large organizations may prefer to run web based manual accounts for selected uses, or to gain immediate access during the API integration process.

Q. Can I use an existing API connection to my credit bureau, authentication service or fraud service provider to access ID AlarmŽ?
A. Yes. Ask your credit bureau or fraud services provider. They may already be connected to ID AlarmŽ. If they are not, establishing a connection to us from them is not difficult.

Q. What types of government ID can I send an alarm to?
A. Most government ID commonly accepted for identification is supported. This varies by country of issue but generally includes passports, national ID numbers, social insurance and social security numbers, military ID, native status cards, resident cards, drivers license, health cards, and birth certificates.

Q. Can I use ID AlarmŽ for credit card purchases?
A. Yes. Enter the credit card type and number and the message will be delivered to our member or archived for later delivery. You may also send a message when credit cards are presented as supporting ID in applications for credit, new accounts or other services. If you are a high-volume credit card merchant contact us about installing our API with your payment processor.

Q. How is my message delivered to the ID Alarm member?
A. The message is posted to their online account and listed as "unread". The message is also sent to a designated email address, and to a designated cell phone in the form of a text message.

Q. Are there unique benefits for government and financial ID issuers?
A. Yes. First, a notification can be sent based on the "foundation" ID presented when applying for a new government or financial ID. Secondly, ID issuers can send messages to the issued ID to confirm address and name changes, replacement card requests and other actions on issued ID that are known to carry a high risk of fraud. Third, government ID issuers can opt in to a "validity check" program to enhance the integrity of their issued ID. This provides an immediate valid/not valid return code to business and other governments presented with the ID.

Q. What is medical identity theft?
A. Medical ID theft occurs when one or more stolen pieces of ID are used to procure health services or drugs. Misused ID can be a private or public health insurance card, or other government ID presented at the time medical services are requested. This is a potentially life threatening issue as the medical records of the victim can be altered to reflect the medical condition of the ID thief.

Q. How can ID AlarmŽ help to prevent medical ID theft?
A. Health care providers may send a notification to an ID owner based on their public or private health card number, or other ID numbers presented. By extending ID AlarmŽ services to insured individuals, public and private health insurers can dramatically decrease the rate of medical ID theft. Insurers can also integrate with ID AlarmŽ on a system-to-system level and send notifications when claims are processed or services requested.

Q. How long does it take for the member to receive their message?
A. The message appears in their account instantly, and will appear as email or a text message very quickly depending on the speed of the email or mobile phone service provider.

Q. What details are in the ID AlarmŽ you send to the members?
A. Each message contains the type of ID accessed, the local date and time the message was sent, the name of the organization using it and a contact number to call the organization if fraud is suspected, or if a flagged high risk ID has been accessed.
